In the age of the overnight sensations, only the true greats get to contemplate precisely how to celebrate 50 years of the music business. How does one go about encapsulating a career that has seen record sales of over 100 million and five Grammys Awards? What songs does one choose to represent a rich and storied career when Warwick ranks second only to Aretha Franklin as the most charted female vocalist in history with 56 singles making the Billboard Hot 100 between 1962 and 1998? Well, when Warwick decided that it would be virtually impossible to choose the songs herself, she polled her colleagues, including Stevie Wonder. The result is an album that revisits six of her classic hits with Burt Bacharach and Hal David, including (There s) Always Something There To Remind Me, Reach Out, Make It Easy On Yourself and I Say A Little Prayer, the latter of which features a duet with her son David Elliott in this updated version of the track. But nostalgia alone even with a twist was never going to be enough to mark such a landmark anniversary. She realized that her original songwriting partners have also remained at the top of their game, so Dionne decided to tackle two new (to her) songs each by the men who helped bring her voice to the world. She allowed the songwriters to choose the songs themselves, and she provides definitive takes on Love Is Still the Answer and Is There Anybody Out There? from Bacharach and David s It Was Almost Like a Song and 99 Miles From LA. Rounding out this timeless collection are two tracks from her 1972 album Dionne that she wanted to rerecord.
